To
speak about hand-painted tile is to travel thousands
of years in time and through various cultures (Chinese,
Persian, Moorish, etc.). But when we refer to the
origin of hand-painted tile in Mexico, we can go back
to the colonization time period in the XVI century,
in which potters originating from Talavera de la Reina
in Spain established themselves in Puebla, where they
taught their techniques, giving birth to what is still
today known as talavera. With time, these techniques
were spread to other regions of Mexico, where new
designs and practices originated in the manufacture
of hand-painted tile.
All
of our tiles present different fabrication techniques.
They are molded and painted by hand by Mexican artisans,
which makes each individual piece unique and will
present variation in size, color, and shape. We present
three collections made with somewhat different techniques,
and we hope that through them you will find what you
have been looking for.
